Ray Macek sent these photos along. Here's what he has to say: I arrive Phu Bai the beginning of October 1968 and left the end of June 1969. I had come out of Asmara, Ethiopia, so they prorated my assignment down somewhat. I was a 98C working in the GDRS building, small shack to the left of the compound as you walked in. Worked misc traffic and actually found some things. Mostly, as the photos showed, when off duty, we had a good time (or that is what we choose to remember of the whole experience). I have another picture of the PX hit that is a bit further back and shows both buildings, the other one would be to the left as you view that one. It, too, had damage to the door on far left side, showing to a little blowing out. This one showed more damage so figured it would make better press. OK, here are some captions for you, going in the order that they are displayed:

A shot of Camp Eagle, 101st Airborne base camp
The ammo dump with Hill 180 in the background
Another shot of the ammo dump with a chopper being loaded, taken from
one of our bunkers while on guard duty.
A party in F21, Artie Sellers in the middle (passed away 1972 or 73)
A party in the ARVN's room
These are Dept of Defense guys who worked with us.
The F21 group, left to right: Artie Sellers, Tom Eby, Jim Feather,
Roger Allman and me on the floor.
(That's me on top.)
Hill 180, a view of the road going up
From atop Hill 180, overlooking the ammo dump
Hill 180 looking back into the hills. (the 50 cal was a nice touch I
thought)
Another shot of from atop Hill 180. Pulled some guard duty up there in
a small secure area.
Our own minefield/perimeter.
OK, they all looked alike, this one was mine, but it could be yours.
(Available light, I think that we had red curtains.)
Another one of the parties. Richard Rowe is the black linguist in the middle (identification courtesy of Roger Blake)
Another F21 party, help fill in the names.
[ back, left, white shirt: Jerry
Nadig, a lingie classmate of mine...Merwin C Fuller ]
The road going by our sector of the perimeter (from a bunker)
The pool, need I say more?
(Hey, look...the waters actually blue!)
The PX (I think) after being hit by a 122mm rocket.
Home sweet home, the trailers.
Do you remember the train that would go by?
