Now here's a technique one doesn't see on the Web everyday. It's deceptively easy to do for an Illustrator with a knowledge of the tools involved. The drawing on your left was accomplished using a white colored pencil (Prismacolor 938) on a black 40# linen paper. The imagery is courtesy of my own twisted mind. Above, again the same tools were used to create the head and ruled lines. ACHEIVING THIS EFFECT: This effect requires the artist to think not in terms of contour but rather in terms of mass and light reflected from the mass. If drawing from life, a very subtle contour line may be employed as reference and then removed later with an analog or digital eraser. (I used Photoshops dodge and burn tools to finish this drawing after scanning.)
